Interesting, that whales are hunted in an effort to preserve fish, - TopicsExpress

Interesting, that whales are hunted in an effort to preserve fish, which they eat, for humans. However, the reduction in whale numbers actually causes a decline in the fish population. The reason is that whales feed at lower depths, then release a nutritious poo-nami in the upper depths where photosynthesis occurs, causing phytoplankton to grow, which the fish feed on. So, the whales are an integral part of the whole ecosystem. Get rid of them and the whole thing begins to collapse. Thus speaks the usual warning of trying to engineer nature, in that removing or adapting one component for a particular purpose, can often have unexpected affects, when the holistic complexity of a system is not understood, or is ignored. https://youtube/watch?v=M18HxXve3CM
