Interesting theory of the day. Im a sword collector... well, an amateur sword collector as swords can get quite expensive. And I have a large interest in blacksmith work. I read as much about swords and such as I can. Have done so for most of my life once I first discovered what a sword was. Anyway... thats not the point here. There was a very famous type of sword that was crafted by the Norse culture, particularly the Vikings, called the Ulfberht. It was a very impressive sword, even to this day. High tempered steel, perfectly balanced, etc. Only a handful of warriors were privileged enough to carry the blade. It is known by some historians as one of, if not THE greatest, type of sword ever forged. I just got done watching a documentary about it a little while ago and it got me thinking... Skyrim is based off of Norse culture, and whats the most impressive forge in Skyrim? The Skyforge. And while Skyforge steel isnt necessarily the best weaponry in the game, it is deemed by the Nords as the strongest and most impressive type of steel, calling it legendary. Also, I know Eorlund Grey-Mane crafts more than swords, however... it makes you wonder if Bethesda based the Skyforge steel off of the Ulfberht history. Anyway, so there you go. Something interesting to think about. Heres a link also, where you can read more about Ulfberht if you wish. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_sword Also, check out this documentary about it. Like hearing about a real life Skyforge. https://youtube/watch?v=FKvRHaJ2w6w - Hjalti
