Interesting thing I learned about manicures and a reason why so many of the people working in the business are Vietnamese. I watched an interview of Tippi Hedren on TCM a few days ago. She is one of Alfred Hitchcocks famous blonde leading ladies. She was in The Birds and Marnie directed by Hitchcock. Both are excellent by the way. Anyhoo, back in the early 1970s after the war in Vietnam was over, there were many Vietnamese refugees in southern California waiting to be relocated around the country. Hedren made a visit along with a charitable organization to a refugee camp, Many of the young Vietnamese women admired Hedrens manicured nails. Hedren came upon the idea of bringing her manicurist into the camp to teach the young women how to do it, It spread from there to more of the young Vietnamese women making their way to America and now to subsequent generations. This explains why you can walk into a nail shop in a Walmart in Casper, Wyoming and get your nails done by someone from Vietnam. Now you know that.
