Interesting thing about subsidized meals the schools give out is a con job by the government. Each school district hands out the applications for reduced school lunches to every student, asking the parents to fill them out, even if they do not qualify. Here is why. The department of Agriculture runs the reduced lunch program and they only allow the district to validate 3% of applications. Yes I said 3%. So why would the districts do this. Because once you have free and reduced lunch numbers, you then apply for Title 1 funds (disadvantaged students)from the department of education that use the free and reduced lunch program to determine the percentage of disadvantaged students. These are big numbers. My district got 75M last year. And this money is not allowed to be managed by the school Board, it is under the direction of the Superintendent. So in summary, schools give out FRL applications to all students, the department of Agriculture limits validation to 3%, Schools apply to the Dept of Education for Title one funds based on the Dept of Agricultures 3% findings. It is all about the money. Just a scam to sound like a good thing, but there is real money being laid out here and districts are all on teh same bandwagon to get their fair share. According to the districts numbers for FRL participants, my city is one of the poorest in the country, yet the Cities demographic data says otherwise. Another case of Liars figure and figures lie.
