Interesting this pages debate is suggesting.....179 trains to Newcastle station will be replaced by 290-310 buses instead, causing significant traffic jams........on the local roads. 179 train services replaced by nearly double the buses - that shows how effective rail transport to Newcastle is. Railways were designed to move people effectively in large numbers, throwing this away and replacing with multiple buses instead...... wont achieve the same outcomes but will cause local people long term delays.... trip transfers and issues for disabled people. Is this really what people want in 2014 and beyond?. Newcastle Liberal members must be keen to get behind ........progressing with traffic jams and traffic congestion. This may become a hallmark of NSW Liberal party planning which seems to be aim for ignoring the community who want the railway to stay. Surely NSW can do better and instead of removing rail services, increase rail services across NSW. Imagine what $340million which is a suggested cost for the closure of the Newcastle station / truncation project. That money could restore rail services to many rural towns currently missing out on stops but instead rely on buses..... March 2015 is the next state election and it is growing evident from community backlash Mike Baird may become known as a short term Premier, due to his blatant ignorance of local people wishes for many simply community requests being ignored.
