Interesting thought: According to the 2nd century church father, Iranaeus, the apostle John’s disciple, Polycarp, was said to have recounted a scenario about the apostle John. The scenario involved a heretic by the name of Cerinthus who was present in a public bath-house. When John, who was also going to take a bath in the bath-house, learned that Cerinthus was inside, he: “rushed out of the bath-house without bathing, exclaiming, ‘Let us flee, lest even the bath-house fall down, because Cerinthus, the enemy of the truth, is within.’” If this is true, it definitely challenges the toleration we (including me) show for heresies and heretics.
