Interesting tidbit in the Mighty 90 today: Pronghorn fawns are born on F. E. Warren the first couple of weeks in June. These fawns are often found in very public places, such as the parking lot to your building or the backyard of your house. If you see a fawn, please do not touch it. When humans pet fawns, the fawns are often abandoned by their mothers due to the unfamiliar scent. Pronghorn mothers also move quite a distance away from their fawns once they are born so they do not attract predators to the newborn. The fawns curl up in the grass to stay hidden and the mothers return to nurse their young about every 5 hours. If you see a fawn alone, it may not be abandoned; however, if you are concerned please call the Environmental Element, at 773-4356 or the Law Enforcement desk at 773-3501 so that it can be monitored, and as always, please watch out for pronghorn on the roads!
