Interesting tidbits: 1875 - Snooker invented by Sir Neville Chamberlain. 1897 – The Aurora, Texas UFO incident. During 1896–1897, numerous sightings of a cigar-shaped mystery airship were reported across the US. One of these accounts appeared in the 19 April 1897, edition of the Dallas Morning News. Written by Aurora resident S.E. Haydon, the alleged UFO is said to have hit a windmill on the property of a Judge J.S. Proctor two days earlier at around 6am, resulting in its crash. The pilot (who was reported to be not of this world) did not survive the crash, and was buried with Christian rites at the nearby Aurora Cemetery. The cemetery contains a Texas Historical Commission marker mentioning the incident. In recent years ground penetrating radar has confirmed the existance of an unmarked grave where the alien was said to have been burried. Fans of Firesign Theater might recognize this as part of the plot of Everything You Know is Wrong. 1937 - Cartoon characters Daffy Duck, Elmer J Fudd, and Petunia Pig debut. 1973 – George Lucas begins writing the treatment for Star Wars. Todays birthday crew: 1891 – George Adamski, author and ufologist, became widely known in ufology circles, and to some degree in popular culture, after he claimed to have photographed ships from other planets, met with friendly Nordic alien Space Brothers, and to have taken flights with them. The first of the so-called contactees of the 1950s, he was called a philosopher, teacher, student and saucer researcher, though his claims were met with skepticism. Adamski had written a best selling book titled Flying Saucers Have Landed detailing his experiences, co-written with Desmond Leslie. 1914 – Mac Raboy, American cartoonist whose comic books and strips remain collectibles more than 40 years after his death. He was known for his work on Fawcett Comics Captain Marvel Jr. and as the Sunday strip artist of Flash Gordon for over 20 years. 1929 – Michael Forest, American actor who provides the voices for many animated titles. At the age of 71, he played the voice of Prince Olympius in Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue. In his earlier years, Forest was a film and television actor, notably playing the part of Apollo in the 1967 Star Trek episode Who Mourns for Adonais?. Forest was a rugged-looking addition to Roger Cormans list of leading men during their 1950s heyday. 1942 – David Bradley, British actor most widely known for playing Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movies. Other acting credits include the HBO series Game of Thrones, Captain America: The First Avenger, and an episode of Doctor Who. 1957 – Susan Roman, Canadian voice actress best known for voice acting the role of Lita/Sailor Jupiter in the North American dub of Sailor Moon. She is one of the few voice actors to remain throughout the entire run of the series. Happy birthday guys!
