Interesting times across Turtle Island it is the 250th anniversary of the Royal Proclamation a declaration that states that Aboriginal land rights had to be respected, Indian peoples were not to be molested and that our right to hunt, to fish and live on the lands was to be respected. That the crown was to negotiate on a nation to nations bases with natives, in regards to our lands. At the same time this proclamation made clear that this was subject to change to suit the crowns needs. Trusting in the writings of a colonial declaration to recognize and respect Indigenous rights is hopeless, always has been and always will, how can we trust a colonial system that is based on dishonesty, disinformation, coercion, capitalism and control of Indigenous lands and life. Instead of playing by the rules of a flawed system, we need to assert our jurisdiction upon our lives and lands, uphold our hereditary system, clan houses, traditional laws and values... because we have given them the benifit of the doubt, we have been patient, we have gone the path of acadamia, litigation, legislation, administration and fake treaties. Now we need to divorce ourselves from this abusive relationship and stop asking for what has always been ours, without compromise.
