Interesting yet not surprising. I am very confident they were not the only Presidents who harbored racist notions. Each were only conduits of distorted cultural beliefs of their times. People shape culture and culture shapes people. Then there are those who self reflect upon the effects of culture and demonstrate the courage to question the harmful psychological aspects and practices embedded in any culture. While some were racists, I appreciate those Black Americans who raised the bar of social accountability as well as each President who still put forth some measure of equality or racial inclusion-- whether they wanted too or not. Let us never forget that we all are here on this planet to evolve-- on the personal and collective level.
