Interfaith Marriage - Between a Muslim Man and Christian or Jewish Woman hotd June 17 Question: Is it lawful for a Muslim man to marry a Christian or Jewish woman (people of the book)? Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh Thank you for your question. Kindly note that it is always better for a Muslim man to marry a Muslim woman. This will bring great blessings in the marriage. The couple will be a means of support, not only in physical and material matters but also in aspects of faith and religion. One will be saved from numerous challenges related to future goals, family planning and children that are born in result of the marriage. “… You marry believing women…” (Qur’ān 33:49) That being said, if the Christian or Jewish woman believes in the main tenants of Christianity and or Judaism, such as the existence of God, the Gospel or Towrah, life after death etc. then it would be permissible to marry her. "This day, good things have been made lawful for you. The food of the people of the Book is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them, and good women from among believers, and good women from among those who were given the Book before you, provided you give them their dowers, binding yourself in marriage, neither going for lust, nor having paramours. Whoever rejects Faith, his effort will go to waste and, in the Hereafter, he will be among the losers". (Qur’ān 5:5) And Allah knows best.
