Intergenerational Apology We are sorry we did not take the advice President Eisenhower gave during his speech on Jan. 17, 1961 regarding the military industrial complex. We are sorry for creating and perpetuating a debt-based monetary system. We are sorry for exploiting the finite resources on this planet. We are sorry for creating and perpetuating social structures which create extreme inequalities. We are sorry for not protecting and valuing the local farmer. We have given too much power to factory farms and harmful profit-driven food corporations. We are sorry for the carbon footprint we have left. We know that carbon dioxide emissions have increased 40% since the industrial revolution resulting in climate change that could have devastating effects. We are sorry we have taught you to be consumers instead of givers. We are sorry we have taught you to compete instead of co-operate. We are sorry for false images we have given you about money, success and happiness. We are sorry for not updating the educational and political systems to help you fix these problems as expediently and painlessly as possible. We are sorry you will now have to fix these things so not to have to make this same apology to your children and grandchildren.
