Internal Medicine Junior Nurse- Part time WAVES is an emergency, critical care and specialist veterinary hospital that opened in Success, WA in June 2013. We currently need a junior nurse to join our growing team in internal medicine! You need to be calm, organised and thorough. Together with other nursing staff you will be keeping everything under control, so our vets can get on with their work as efficiently as possible. At WAVES you will get to do real nursing. What we do here is important and makes a real difference to animal’s lives. With support and training, you’ll get more responsibility and be able to influence what happens with our patients. You’ll be giving animals what they really need to the highest standards of care and you will know you are doing the best for the animals. WAVES is committed to finding the right team to staff our hospital over the long term. We are looking for a junior nurse but one that is dedicated, who is genuinely interested in the science of veterinary medicine and are willing to consistently provide quality patient care in a sometimes hectic environment. You need to have a Certificate IV in veterinary nursing or be studying towards this qualification. Your approach is the most important thing to us. You will get support and training, and also continuing education if you have the right attitude, but are lacking the clinical experience of working in a busy hospital. You will be working Monday to Friday with no on call or weekend work. The role is initially a part-time position for between 20- 30 hours per week. Your routine on a typical day will involve explaining procedures to pet owners and updating them with their pet’s progress, treating and monitoring medical inpatients, restraining patients, assisting with and performing routine nursing procedures such as blood collection, catheter placement and using in-house laboratory equipment, but also assisting with exciting medical procedures such as endoscopy, CSF taps and bone marrow biopsies. With support you must be able to prioritise your workload, keep meticulous records on the patients in your care and importantly need to recognise abnormalities in patients’ health status and alert the medicine clinicians accordingly. You will be working primarily with two medicine clinicians and an experienced medicine nurse but also a team of other veterinary specialists & nurses throughout the hospital to facilitate patient care. You will need to spot things that require doing and get on with them without being asked. To make sure the hospital keeps running smoothly, you will need to keep the hospital clean, walk dogs to let them stretch their legs and have a sniff, stock shelves, keep the laundry moving and cuddle patients as required. If you have time, you can have a coffee too. In return for your hard work and dedication, WAVES will: • Give you the support and training you need • Encourage and support your further education over the years • Provide a healthy and happy workplace for you and everyone else • Deal with any negative workplace behaviour in any form to make sure you enjoy working here with us • Provide you with a challenging and satisfying career • Provide all the equipment you require to optimally care for your patients • Make you a birthday cake every year We take recruitment very seriously because we know it is important to get the right people and it’s also important that you are going to like working with us. We want to build up a team of people who will stay for years, and grow with us. So if you think that you may be the person we are looking for please email me at [email protected] to find out about our recruitment process and how to apply. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
