International Day of the Girl Child 2014: Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence SCORP family, Today is a special day for girls worldwide. I would like to share my message with you for today so that you can be inspired and encouraged to continue your beautiful work on this field. Why is global education important to us? Why should childrens rights matter? Why should we care? The answer is simple. Without education we wouldnt be future doctors and we wouldnt be empowered to change the problems we see around us. 1. Living proof of girls empowerment Malala realised this at the age of 15. She wasnt going to give in as her rights were taken away because she knew the importance of education. Education is the foundation for peace and dialogue, health, development, progress, freedom of choice, free to choose ones future, everything really. I am sharing Malalas speech with you: https://youtube/watch?v=66tIRTm91F8 so that you can understand through her eyes what it really means to be denied an education, in a country where oppression and fear controlled the lives of the people around her. Still aged 17, she is planning to bring India and Pakistan back into peaceful relations because she knows that children also have a role to play, they are not as weak as youd think. In the future we are going to be treating children as patients. They too have their needs. They have the right to be happy, to be carefree and not to be burdened with responsibility. They must be protected. And what better way to start the work in the community then from now through our SCORP initiatives? 2.
