International Holocaust Remembrance Day International Holocaust Remembrance Day, 27 January, is an international memorial day for the victims of the Holocaust, the genocide that resulted in the annihilation of 6 million Jews, 2 million Gypsies, and millions of others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. On January 27, 1945, Soviet forces liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, discovering the largest Nazi killing center in Europe. Auschwitz has become a symbol of the Holocaust, representing the depths of mans inhumanity to man. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly resolution on 1 November 2005. This Resolution establishing 27 January as International Holocaust Remembrance Day urges every member nation of the U.N. to honor the memory of Holocaust victims, and encourages the development of educational programs about Holocaust history to help prevent future acts of genocide. The Holocaust Remembrance Day is also a national event in the United Kingdom and in Italy. Meenal Lathi ISO IWC Jalgaon East D:303 INDIA
