Internet Sales Tax is Raising Its Ugly Head H.R. 3086: Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act vs Marketplace Fairness Act Hold on to your wallets folks; the Senate is pushing hard to tax Internet sales again. Their bill, the Marketplace Fairness Act, is supposed to allow states the ability to collect sales tax from all of us who purchase items online. The tax system on the net now is based on the honor system; meaning your supposed to pay the sales tax based on your states tax rate for any purchases you make online either out or in state. The problem with this bill is the potential to kill internet businesses and sales dramatically. While brick and mortar businesses cry foul because internet businesses dont have to pay sales taxes for items they sell, they fail to realize the dangers of opening a door. So what do you think? Do you think the internet should remain free of sales taxes or is this a way to balance the scales? https://govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/hr3086 thehill/policy/finance/212385-senators-renew-internet-sales-tax-push#.U8Zfk9wc6oR.twitter clarionledger/story/opinion/columnists/2014/07/16/salter-internet-taxes-sales-taxes-different/12766141/
