Internship Opportunity Resettlement Unit UNHCR Regional Office in Cairo, Egypt 1. Assignment Title: Resettlement Intern 2. No. of Opportunities: 2 Internship Opportunities Available 3. Period of Internship: 3 - 6 months 4. Agency: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) – Egypt 5. Objectives of internship: a. Familiarity with UNHCR mandate and resettlement procedures and disseminating information to refugees. b. Contribution to ongoing activities of the Resettlement Unit specific objectives c. Attend to the UNHCR Resettlement Hotline and answer queries by refugees in the Resettlement process. d. Provide counseling on resettlement procedures to refugees e. Possibility to shadow interviews with all units (Registration, Refugee Status Determination, Protection, Resettlement) f. Possibility to conduct online trainings on the UNHCR Learn and Connect platform 6. Work Context: The Resettlement Unit works with African and Iraqi refugees in Cairo. There are more than 52.000 individuals registered with the office as of 2014. The Resettlement unit receives referrals for vulnerable cases and explores their need for resettlement as a durable solution. 7. Description of Duties: The intern will be under the direct supervision of the Head of Unit and in close collaboration with all staff. The intern may be required to: a. Provide counseling to refugees through the hotline, appointment line, and face to face. b. Assist the head of unit as well as the Resettlement coordinator and other resettlement staff with inquiries and follow-up on obtaining information from physical files. c. Draft/send internal referrals within UNHCR to on a case by case basis. d. Draft referrals to external partners on a case by case basis. e. Locate files and present to resettlement staff. f. Assist in other projects as required. 8. Qualifications and Skills required: a. Bachelor’s degree, ideally in the areas of political science, Human Rights, law, or similar fields b. Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English c. Ability to work in a team and desire to learn. 9. Particulars of Assignment: a. No provision is made for remuneration of Intern. b. All costs connected with Internships must therefore be borne by the Intern or their sponsoring institutions, including costs relating to travel and living accommodation. c. UNHCR accepts no responsibility or liability for costs arising from travel, accident and/or illness incurred during an Internship. d. There is no expectation of employment at the end of the Internship. Interns are not eligible to apply for a post with UNHCR, including a consultancy, during the period of Internship and for the six months immediately following the Internships expiration date. e. At the end of the Internship Term, a report on the tasks assigned and activities undertaken during the Term has to be provided in a written form. f. Upon submitting the report, the Intern will be provided with certificate confirming duration of his/her Internship with UNHCR and information on tasks performed during the internship term. 10.
