Interpeace is a Swiss non-profit organization that works in close partnership with national partner organizations and the UN. Its aim is to strengthen the capacities of societies to manage conflict in non-violent, non-coercive ways by assisting national actors in their efforts to develop social and political cohesion. Interpeace also strives to assist the international community (and in particular the United Nations) to play a more effective role in supporting peacebuilding efforts around the world through better understanding and response to the challenges of creating local capacities that enhance social and political cohesion. Chaired by former President John Kufuor and headquartered in Geneva, Interpeace is supported by bilateral and multilateral donors as well as private funding. The organization is currently active in Africa, Central America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Scope of the Position: The Brussels Office is part of the office of the External Relations and Communications unit of Interpeace. Based in Brussels, the Intern will have a variety of duties and will provide support to the day-to-day activities of the Brussels Office. The Intern will become familiar with Interpeace’s peacebuilding programmes and develop a greater understanding of the day-to-day running of an international NGO. The intern will also be working with the European Union representatives and learn more about European Union structures and procedures. Under the general guidance and supervision of the EU Special Advisor, the Intern’s duties will include, but are not limited to: Research, analysis and preparation of substantive briefs and presentations; Monitor reports and resolutions of relevant European Union bodies on topics that are of interest to Interpeace and prepare summaries of them; Provide support for special projects; Draft letters and correspondence to key stakeholders; Draft communications to Interpeace staff to keep them abreast of European Union news and activities; Support the organization of staff missions, meetings and special events, including logistics and preparation of background material; Provide support for communication and fundraising activities of the organization; Undertake any other assignments, as may be determined by the EU Special Advisor or the Director for External Relations and Communication; Contribute to the development of publications and communications material under the guidance of the Communications and Social Media Officer. Requirements: Holding or studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field; Previous work experience in a related field; Knowledge of peacebuilding and conflict prevention issues and the European Union system; Fluency in English and excellent writing skills are essential; Good working knowledge of French; Excellent analytical and organizational skills; Attention to detail; Ability to manage many tasks at once, work against short deadlines and remain calm and focused under pressure. This is a full-time internship with a duration of 3 to 6 months. The Intern will receive a monthly allowance which conforms with Belgian legislation.
