Interprofessional Education Student Engagement Awards UTMB Interprofessional Education Student Engagement Awards FY 2014 Through UTMB’s Interprofessional Education (IPE) initiative, students have the opportunity to earn distinctions based on participation at three levels: IPE Scholars, IPE Leaders, or IPE Volunteers. In addition, students may apply to receive grants to attend interprofessional conferences or initiate a new IPE activity. IPE Volunteers Requirements: • Submit application to IPE Assistant Director. • Assist with delivery of IPE Day workshop or with general logistics during IPE Day. NOTE: A maximum of 15 IPE Volunteers will be accepted for IPE Day 2014, on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who actively participate in their volunteering role during IPE Day will receive: • A $50 bookstore gift certificate. IPE Leaders Requirements: • Submit application to IPE Assistant Director. • Participate in a minimum of two (2) IPE activities during the year. This may include IPE-designated activities or classes, or other interprofessional non-IPE activities that occur throughout the year. Examples include: Pediatric End of Life Simulation, Patient Safety Interprofessional Core Course, Spirituality and Clinical Care Module. NOTE: It is required to obtain approval from IPE Office for interprofessional activities that are not listed on IPE website. • Assist with the delivery of IPE Day workshops. • Submit to IPE Assistant Director a one-page reflective essay (300 words) for each activity, by the end of the academic year in which the activity took place, addressing the following questions: How did your participation help you to develop the learning objectives for IPE at UTMB (utmb.edu/synergy/)? How did your participation help you to develop some of the Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice, as outlined by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (aacn.nche.edu/educationresources/ipecreport.pdf)? After all elements are completed and submitted, an IPE review committee will evaluate the merit of the portfolio and award distinction, if earned. Students who complete all requirements and earn distinction, as determined by the committee, will receive: Certificate, provided at end of academic year Stipend of $100 applied to the student account NOTE: A maximum of 35 IPE Leaders will be chosen each year, on a first-come, first-served basis. IPE Scholars Requirements: • Submit application to IPE Assistant Director. • Participate in a minimum of two (2) IPE activities per year of enrollment at UTMB. This may include IPE-designated activities or classes, or other interprofessional, non-IPE activities that occur throughout the year. Examples include: Pediatric End of Life Simulation, Patient Safety Interprofessional Core Course, Spirituality and Clinical Care Module. This must be completed in conjunction with a faculty mentor. Students are responsible for finding their own faculty mentors. After all elements are completed and submitted, an IPE review committee will evaluate the merit of the portfolio and award distinction, if earned. Students who complete all requirements and earn distinction, as determined by the committee, will receive: • Medal and certificate, provided at end of enrollment period at UTMB • Recognition at Commencement Ceremony and in Commencement Bulletin • Indication on Transcript • Award of $500, provided at end of enrollment period at UTMB NOTE: Students may apply to be IPE Leaders each year AND IPE Scholars at the end of their enrollment period at UTMB, thereby receiving recognition and awards each year. The IPE review committee will determine the number of Scholar awards granted each year. IPE Student Engagement Grant Students may apply for funding to attend interprofessional conferences, to present interprofessional research or projects at conferences, or to create a student-initiated IPE project or activity. Funding is also available for students who wish to participate in the Clarion Case Competition (chip.umn.edu/clarion/casecomp/). IPE Student Engagement Grant applications are reviewed continuously and are granted on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum amount of $1000 per grant. Funds may be used to cover travel expenses, conference registration, or expenses related to the student-initiated IPE activity, as approved by IPE. In reviewing grant applications, the designated committee will evaluate applications based on the following criteria: - The extent to which the conference/project relates to UTMB’s objectives for Interprofessional Education. - The extent to which the conference/project relates to IPEC’s Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaboration. - The level of collaborative interprofessional teamwork displayed in the project. Use of Funds: - Application must be approved by the IPE review committee. - Receipts for qualifying expenses are submitted to the IPE office for reimbursement. - All expenditures must be completed and reimbursement requests submitted before August 10, 2014.
