Interstellar: Best work for director Christopher Nolan so far. I was breathless watching it. It evokes great themes, and it deals with heavy subjects. If you love quantum mechanics and the theory of relativity, this is a movie for you to watch. This is a male movie that is suffused with themes of adventure, achievement, ambition, and purpose. This is a female movie suffused with themes of the transcendental nature of love, the heavy loom of relations, and the length to which we go to sacrifice what we love. And this is a human movie, raising heavy ideas of individualism contrasted with collectivity. Never before had such heavy themes, and anyone who knows anything about quantum mechanics could say otherwise, represent such complex ideas visually. The tesseract near the end left me breathless. Last years gravity is shallow and toothless and clumsy is comparison to this giant monster. Story: 10/10 Brilliant visuals, this is above all a visual accomplishment. Accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack, and the movie shines most when there is no music at all, you hold your breath and you are in absolute awe. So in the category of visuals and sound, this movie scores full score in both. The acting is supreme, there are only a couple of supporting actors who deliver flat moments but they are only noticeable because the rest of the cast is flawless. Matthew McCounaghey will receive an Oscar nod this year or a great injustice will be done. He manages to balance desperation with heroism, comedy with drama, and passion with trepidation so effortlessly we do not stop for a second to doubt that the character he created is real. Another Oscar nod is deserving for Hathaway who aspires empathy as the scientist who is out of her element yet ready to take responsibility for her actions. Matt Damon is also deserving of praise but his role will go unnoticed because of its short duration. And the movie is made the more human thanks to the brilliant Jessica Chastain, the red head vixen, who, bitter and impassioned, angry and determined, provides a human anchor that prevents the movie from going overboard. Christopher Nolan delivers one of the finest cinematic accomplishments of his career. This is a film that is ambitious in its view, masterful in its execution, heavy in its themes, and a wonderful piece of entertainment that is thought provoking and relate-able. The only drawbacks are as follow: The film may be too smart, if the audience is not acquainted with physics they will be clueless and out of depths. At the same time I love the fact that this is a movie with brains. The other comment is that the editing at times felt rushed, and the timelines confusing. Otherwise it is all in all a wonderful experience. A sci-fi that is well grounded in reality and has a heart. 8,5/10 Go watch it, it deserves the praise its receiving and buckets more
