Interview with Ashur Giwargis the founder of the Assyria Patriotic Movement (APM) Ashur Giwargis , the founder of the Assyria Patriotic Movement (APM) , was recently in Sweden to give a lecture and establish new contacts among Assyrian activists. Then he visited Assyria TVs studio to talk about APM s business and strategy issues related to the Assyrian national struggle . He believes that the management of Assyrian organizations should move from the Middle East where it is in the hands of totalitarian regimes and established in the Diaspora. In the Middle East there are about half a million Assyrians while two million living in diaspora, says Giwargis . He is also critical of the proposal of a new province in the Nineveh Plain, because he sees the project as a Kurdish scam to annex it with the KRG . He believes that the whole proposal from the Council of Ministers in Baghdad contrary to the Iraqi Constitution, which says that only the council of an existing province has the right to divide the province , not the central government . Another issue discussed in the program is APM s position in the conflict in Syria. Ashur Giwargis on earlier statements sided with the Assad regimes side because he believes that the opposition has been kidnapped by Islamist opposition that drive Christians out of the country. But he points out that it is his private opinion , while APM s main aim is the requirement of a free Assyria within the boundaries of the Assyrian triangle in the heart of Assyria.
