Interview with Karlee Nimmer Executive Director of Sports at UWW TV First I would like to thank you for taking time to let me interview you and giving a chance for UWW Sports Nation to get a better glimpse of exactly what you do and who you are. 1. How long have you been working for UWW TV? I have been working for UWW TV for one year. I was the second freshman to be on the executive board and the First woman to be elected to the sports director position. 2. Do you hope to make this a career after you graduate from UW-Whitewater? Yes absolutely I am going into the broadcasting field. More into sports journalism side I want to work for fox sports or ESPN. It’s all about experience coming in as a freshman I was hoping to just get a kick. I actually got Warhawk Sports Saturday" which premiered during my freshman year. Which was also run as a pilot show my freshman year. So to be a part of something that special. Which is so known throughout the country as national champions. That was really big for me, I am really hoping to make it big one day. 3. Not many people may know what all goes into being the executive director. What are some of your responsibilities? Most of them are making sure all of the sports broadcasts are all planned out accordinly. Writing the scripts and shot sheets getting those all put together. Making sure that everyone is on same page also working on directing and producing this year a lot of editing goes into interviews all the video packages. Working with my Co Director Andy Mindham just want to make it clear that we are Co-Directors. We both work super hard. Shawn who we took over for I don’t know how he did it by himself because covering sports is huge. It is such a fun job and Shawn said it right when he said it is the most fun job on Executive staff. I love it. 4. Did you personally play in sports in High school? I did yes I am a three sport athlete. I started playing volleyball but are program in high school wasn’t up to par where I wanted it. So sophomore year I started cross country and it really got me in shape for basketball. I have been playing basketball competitively since the 3rd grade. Took home a state title in 7th grade and in high school actually I played for Kewaunee high school in the d3 division. Junior year very first women’s team in any sport from Kewaunee to make it to state, We actually ended up taking 2nd place along with Luxemburg Casco High school(D2), and Algoma (d4).So all three cities in my country where all runner up. Then my senior year we came back and won. I always where my state ring. We were the very first women’s team in Kewaunee to win state in any sports. It was the best my favorite moment ever. I also ran track and made it to sectionals a couple time for 100 meter Hurdles. But basketball is definitely my main sport also my favorite to cover because been playing it forever and know so much about it 5. About How many programs do you run on weekly bases? Well know that we have Classic sports Network on channel 101.1 this year only on campus. It definitely doubles are playing load. It will play anything from football 2010 to women’s run last year. But UW WarHawk Saturday and Wednesday will first be played on UWW TV then go to the Classic sports Network. Basically a replay for UWW TV. 5. What is the fondest Memory you have of working at UWW TV? That is a tough question I have so many fond memories. But I would have to say working with Shawn because he is so full of knowledge and not only that he is so fun and he is so out there he knows so much about football and all sports. I watched him and got to work with him throughout last year he was a senior and I was just a little freshman. I got to learn from him, to learn the skills to be an executive director. How to run a station and run sports and run it affectively. It was just really really great to work with him. 6. Anything else you would like to say to UWW Sports Nation? To UW Sports Nation that you so much for tuning in and enjoying War Hawk sports I enjoy every bit of it. Here at Whitewater we are so connected everybody’s connected powered by tradition is a huge slogan that we use to promote sports. But not only sports just everybody at Whitewater and I think it’s awesome that can follow that powered by tradition motto and it is something that will definitely carry on and live throughout Whitewater History. So that’s really awesome I would like to again thank you for the interview and your time was a pleasure getting to know you.
