Interviewed by the UK magazine: On Landscape Which photographers or artists inspire you most? How have they influenced your development? There just isn’t enough space for that answer. Where to start? Ironically, as a photographer I’m heavily influenced by the same fine artists that inspired my paintings. John Singer Sargent’s watercolors are the absolute best at defining the juxtaposition of warm and cool shades to make images pop. Vincent Van Gogh’s lines and textures and magnificent skies come to mind as I plan my own compositions. Georgia O’Keeffe’s abstracts and design have influenced my work as well. Photographers who inspire? What I have noticed is that at different stages in my development, I’m inspired by different photographers. I love this in that it helps me see the need to continually evolve and stay fresh. I’ve been greatly inspired by Jack Dykinga, Gary Ladd, G Dan Mitchell, David M. Cobb, Elizabeth Carmel and Kah Kit Yoong Lately, I’ve been exploring more abstract and intimate landscapes and I feel very inspired in this direction by Hans Strand and Art Wolfe. Their artistic approach and philosophies on the medium have had a profound effect on my direction as of late. My number one favorite photographer (who I tell people that I have a photographic crush on) is Art Wolfe. Like myself, Art started out as a painter and I feel that within his work. His compositions and presentations are extremely artistic and beautifully simplistic. His work inspires me to push myself to be the very best yet he reminds me to look at the world with the eyes of an artist.
