Intl Forum for Masajid Visit to Masjid Bandaraya and immersion Masjid.Bandraya is the grand mosque in Kota Kinabalo. It caters 8 thousand prayers and visitors every Friday. It has a madrasah attached to the building at the right side and administration building at the left side of the extension building. Its interesting to note that the said mosque is not only beneficial in terms of spiritual nourishment. Its sorroundings, however, serves as economic hub and tourist destination. The chairman of the board of the mosque, in his presentation, said, We need a lot of dedication and commitment to manage such a huge mosque like this. To sustain it, we have to employ innovative approach. Therefore, we decided to venture into business. The mosque has now its own bank (Bank Islam) and an ATM machine can be found outside the extension building. As part of its extension services, a.clinic was put up to cattle the medical needs of the poor and the needy, to name a few. Lessons learned: 1. Mosque should become an instrument of spiritual enlightening especially the Friday sermon 2. It should also become an instrument of serving the fellow hamanbeing by doing social services thru outreach programs 4. Sustainability depends on the initiative and innovative approach of the leader 5. Strong commitment and dedication coupled with management and leadership skills are essential elements to the progress of any associations or institutions.
