// Intro - I wrote this prelude for an article called Trial By Combat which analyzes the reasons we relate to Game of Thrones and why we love Tyrion Lannister overall the message is about needing to play the game to survive. Thoughts? // In the future, theater will take on a whole new meaning. Media will be available instantly behind the paywalls we’re subscribed too… think, Netflix, Android, Windows, iOS, or Sony’s PS network. Movie studios will take note from the instant buzz shows like Game of Thrones generates online, which in turn took note from the incredible buzz of shows like, Breaking Bad, Lost, and Battlestar Galactica. The line between presenting a movie and or a multi-season story will be blurred. Largely because the way we interact with media has blurred. We now consume media through multiple screens. No longer are television screens or movie screens our only options. Nor are the choices – as far as media consumption is concerned — as simple as before. With a format like that, they can devote 2 entire episodes just for the fight with Thanos, time they don’t have in a theater. And just like Jay-Z and Beyoncé have proven — in the precedent setting music industry — they now save tons of cash on marketing dollars by tapping in to the trinity of surprise, word of mouth, and instant gratification. As for movie theaters, they won’t be completely gone. Those can be saved for special events, like season finales, premiers, or specials, but they will have to accept how the market has changed so their business stays in the game.
