Introducing My Friends Let Me Down By: Michael Lee The next song we would like to introduce to you is My Friends Let Me Down and it was written by a great friend of ours, Michael Lee. Michael spent several years on the road with the Bishops as their piano player, but for the past few years he has been working in his studio called Life Sounds in which we are currently recording this album. Michael is a fantastic piano player and is also a quite accomplished engineer and producer as well. The title of this song may have you thinking that it is a song about friends that dont hold up to their end of the bargain or maybe hey arent very good friends because they are never there when you need them the most, but this song is much the opposite. Before we get into how the song goes, I would like to share a brief story about why this song exists. Several years back a good friend of ours named Mark was on a fishing trip when a freak accident occurred causing him to break his back. Mark was, and still is loved by a lot of people because of his outgoing personality and his (in his own words) sick sense of humor. After a couple of months of rehab Mark made his first trip back to our home church. Michael was our music minister at the time and the pastor, knowing about Michaels songwriting ability asked him to write a song in honor of Mark and his return. Mark was able to share his testimony of how his friends had been so good to him and had never left his side. Michael then penned the words to My Friends Let Me Down. In Luke 5:19 Michael recalled when a man was palsied and his friends carried him to the place where Jesus was. There were so many they could not come near him. They couldnt even get through the door. Determined, his friends went up to the housetop and let him down through the tiles with his couch into the midst before Jesus. So you see, his friends let him down, but in a good way. The second verse of the song speaks of a man who had gone as far as he could and wanted to just stay in bed. He had hopes that his friends would come to his rescue, but he went to church instead. When the choir sang and the preacher preached something happened to him. Then his friends to his surprise led him to Calvary. This is gonna be a great song for us. We are extra excited about its message and ability to reach folks just because of the sheer interest in its content. I hope you enjoy My Friends Let Me Down.
