Introducing... Sargent William Adam GREEN, of the Third NC - TopicsExpress

Introducing... Sargent William Adam GREEN, of the Third NC Volunteer Infantry, Company H (Spanish-American War) aka the Russell Black Battalion. Ive long suspected that this was him, but now, with the help of the genea-community, and deduced by what I know of my ancestral history, I can confidently identify the subject of this picture! William was the fifth child, and second of two sons of my gg-grandparents, Nathaniel Hawkins and Anna Green. Ive never seen pictures of either of them, so identifying this picture was very important to me, because it allows me to put a face on one of their children, for the first time. I wrote about William five years ago on my blog, Into the LIGHT. I will definitely need to do an updated post about him, because Ive learned soooo much more about him since this one was written, but heres what I had to say, at that time. justthinking130.blogspot/search/label/passing Also, there are many links available on the web which reference the Russell Black Battalion, but here are a couple that will give insight to Williams experience. I can only imagine that for him, looking white, the problems must have been magnified (and complicated), and probably instigated his move the NY, just a few years later, and his decision to live the rest of his life passing as white. fold3/page/1466_colored_soldiersthe_spanishamerican/stories/#4955/ spanamwar/3rdnorthcarolina.html spanamwar/3rdnorthcarolinaroster.html (Roster) Thanks to all who helped to identify the insignia, and who commented on the previous posts about this picture. :)
