Inventing the Next Mother Jones An Alliance of Classes Working Outside Politics and Labor I am not yet ready to reveal the organizational model Im dreaming up for Molly Jones eventual nation-wide movement in the second Hellraiser book, Molly and Mother Jones. But I will say its innovative. And Im feeling positive about it. But I await input from a close adviser of mine who actually has an organization similar to this. Molly Jones alliance will look a lot like the historical Knights of Labor, but unlike the Knights, it will be structured in such a way that it will be able to build national unity. The Knights was a federation of cells that developed their own policies, strategies and actions without regard for the policies, strategies and actions of the national organization. The alliance will be apolitical and independent of the existing labor organizations. Mollys view will be that the political process is out of control and hopeless. To tie the alliance to one existing party or another would bring with it baggage that would do more harm than good in building national unity. To include the existing labor movement would also bring baggage, but of a different kind. The goals and objectives of labor are compatible with Mollys new alliance, but it represents only about 10 to 12 percent of labor. Its mantra is more narrowly defined than the broad-based vision her alliance will have of bringing all workers who depend on a paycheck for their livelihoods together with the good capitalists — small local business men and women who have been harmed by unfair competition from the national chains. And communities who have seen their local economies sucked off by bad capitalists who amass boundless fortunes while their communities shrivel and die. Regardless, the new alliance will work with most labor unions and worthy politicians as allies in the cause. So, what do you think? Ill tell you more about the concept of the organizational structure later, but as it develops on paper Im thinking it would be a much better model than the democracy our founding fathers set up which has broken down in modern times.
