Inventor/Guitar Player, Les Paul, is one of the most well known - TopicsExpress

Inventor/Guitar Player, Les Paul, is one of the most well known musicians of all time. He is to the solid-body electric guitar what Thomas Edison is to the incandescent light bulb. He pioneered muti-track recording. He is the designer of his, namesake, Gibson Les Paul guitar and the SG. Were it not for Les Paul, Rock & Roll would not sound like it does, now. Besides all that, he was a prodigious instrumentalist. In fact, I count Les Paul as my all-time favorite guitar player. A lot of his recordings rely on his muti-track/overdubbing techniques, and while the result is a unique an haunting sound, It can camouflage the artistry of his playing. He didn’t restrict his over-dubbing to guitar. Being one half of he legendary Les Paul and Mary Ford, (Mary was his wife, at the time) you can hear Mary harmonizing, with herself, on most of their recordings. The song I have chosen, for this week’s music selection, is Les Paul & Mary Ford’s rendering of the Kalmar and Ruby classic, “Three Little Words.” Recorded in 1951, this was on the album, “Les Paul’s New Sound, Volume 2. In this particular track, you can tell the over-dubbed Mary Ford vocals, but I don’t believe the guitar is dubbed, at all. It’s nothing but one Les Paul, this time. It also has some of the most wonderful guitar playing, you will ever hear! https://youtube/watch?v=CMplfBGKETs
