Investigator/Field Agent Michigan Humane Society - Detroit, MI Investigator/Field Agent The Michigan Humane Society’s Cruelty Investigation Department (CID) has a full-time (40 hours) opening for an Investigator /Field Agent at our Detroit Center for Animal Care. Schedule will require Investigator/Field Agent to be able to work a flexible shift. Field Agents are part of the team that responds to animal cruelty/neglect complaints that are reported to MHS’ Cruelty Investigation Department. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma; a basic knowledge of animal medicine and diseases; animal control/law enforcement experience; prior animal control or investigator experience in an animal welfare organization; successful completion of Levels 1-3 of the National Cruelty Investigation certification courses, through the University of Missouri-Columbia, Law Enforcement Training Institute, School of Law; a familiarity with the City of Detroit; excellent animal handling skills; basic knowledge of dog breeds and characteristics; excellent verbal and writing abilities; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adjust to various situations quickly to establish rapport and control of a situation without escalating it unnecessarily; and compassion for people and a love of animals. Ideal candidates will also be very enthusiastic with a strong desire to learn; realize and accept that there may be occasions when they will be alone in the field on a call; be able to climb and jump; be able to crawl in cramped spaces; physically be able to lift large, heavy objects up to 70 pounds; and be able and willing to professionally and appropriately represent the Michigan Humane Society with the media or in public settings and functions.
