Investigator John Hall from the Federal Investigation Unit called - TopicsExpress

Investigator John Hall from the Federal Investigation Unit called to say Im a lot of trouble for wire fraud. He needed my social security number for verification (scary thing is that he knew the last 4) and also my banking information to make sure it wasnt my account that the fraudulent funds were being deposited to. Quite obviously, it reeked of scam, so I had fun with it. I asked for his badge number...he stammered...and said Extension 72. He also said the Federal Investigation Unit is a subdivision of the FBI. When I mentioned his number comes up as a cell phone, he remarked that its for security purposes. Here is the gist of what transpired just so you know what to look out for: This is a very urgent matter so Im glad you called me back. You are going to be arrested within 24 hours unless I can prove you arent behind this. I see. And this is done how? I already have your information here. I need you to verify your identity to make sure I have the right person. Can you verify the rest of your social security number for me? Im not giving that over the phone. Sir, this is a very urgent matter. I need this before the local authorities are dispatched. Well, then Ill give it to them when they arrive. We can do this another way. Please verify your bank account information. I just need the routing and account number. Well start with the account number. Ah, sure, sounds safe. Have a pen? Yes, yes I do. Okay, its...one... One. Two... Two. Three... Three. Four... (hesitates) Four. Um, Five... Sir, can you confirm that this is the account number that appears on the bottom of your checks? Sure can. Okay, continue. Did you get Five? Yes. Okay...six... Six. Seven... Sir, Im not playing games. This is a very serious matter and this is your one opportunity to avoid prosecution by the sheriff. Okay, I understand. I am going to start recording this call because Im going to need your information as well. Ill put you on hold and call the FBI with your details to verify that this is legitimate. :: click :: The call came from Alabama. I thought it was a friend who lives there, but nope. Its the very serious Federal Investigation Unit. Ill let yall know if I need bail money.
