Invitatie / Invitation to attend a round table event: The Development of a Hydrogen Economy in the European Union. We would be delighted if you could join us at the round table discussion in Brussels this November. This will be your opportunity to celebrate the launch of the Aberdeen City Council Hydrogen Strategy and the Smart Aberdeen 2020. The aim of this round table is to bring policy makers from the European Union, national and local government and the private sector together to discuss the next steps in the development of hydrogen as a low carbon energy vector. Discussions will range across a variety of subjects the need for EU and national policy; skills development; actions needed to reduce hydrogen vehicle and infrastructure costs; technologies that are essential to development; the creation of a network of refuelling stations and related infrastructure. The EU has set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the proportion of low carbon energy sources. Hydrogen and fuel cell technologies will play a key role in meeting these targets. The development of hydrogen as a low carbon fuel faces a number of challenges which can be aided at the European Union, national, regional and local levels. The event will be hosted by Aberdeen City Council: Wednesday 27 November 2013, 09.30 – 12.30 Regione Toscana / CPMR Conference Centre, 8th. Floor, Rond-Pont Schuman, Brussels, Belgium. The Round Table will begin with a presentation of Aberdeen’s Hydrogen Strategy and Smart Aberdeen 2020 and will have a presentation from DG Energy on policy initiatives from the European Commission in the development of hydrogen as a fuel and the challenges ahead. The Round Table will be chaired by Alyn Smith MEP and will be followed by a buffet lunch. More information about the event will follow shortly.
