According to Priscilla Hintz Rivera, curator and director of PHR-Art Projects, “Through art, we can challenge many of our societys deepest problems, create awareness, and hopefully instigate positive change. In an attempt to use creative expression as a means to affect deep and lasting change in our community, the Defend Paradise exhibition will attempt to explore many of our social and environmental issues threatening the quality of life in the U.S. Virgin Islands.” Over twenty artists have been chosen to create a body of work that communicates, provokes, and hopefully motivates our community to address major social problems, such as violent crime, mental illness, hiv/aids, domestic abuse, and environmental exploitation. Participating artists include Shansi Miller, Eric Miles, Drew Alston, Jeremy C.
