Invitation – Last Cremisan Mass Against Israel’s Annexation Wall Beit Jala, January 21, 2014 For years, the people of Beit Jala have organized an open air mass every Friday in order to pray to stop Israel’s annexation of their land through the Separation Wall in the Cremisan Area. Cremisan is one of the last green areas in the Bethlehem District and its land belongs to 58 Palestinian Christian families from Beit Jala as well as the Catholic Church. Israel, the occupying power, aims at linking the settlements of Gilo and Har Gilo, both built on Beit Jala’s lands, through the Cremisan Valley. This is a new Israeli attempt at turning occupation of Palestinian land into annexation by artificially creating a “Greater Jerusalem.” The construction of the Wall will affect hundreds of children attending the Cremisan kindergarten, the jobs of people at the Cremisan Monastery, the access of Beit Jala’s people to their land, and the Holy Spirit Procession, which has been conducted for over 160 years by the Catholic Community in Beit Jala from Cremisan to the Annunciation Church in Beit Jala’s Old City. Unable to access international courts, the people of Beit Jala, as with hundreds of cases all over occupied Palestine, had to go to an Israeli Court in order to delay, as much as possible, the construction of the Israeli Annexation Wall. The Israeli Supreme Court will give a final ruling on the case on Wednesday January 29th. The people of Beit Jala decided that their last mass in Cremisan will be on a 24th. You are kindly asked to join the people of Beit Jala in this act of faith in order not to allow their hope to vanish. The service will be attended by high representatives of the Catholic, Orthodox and Lutheran churches. Date: Friday January 24th Time: 15:30 Hrs. Place: Cremisan Valley, between Al Najjar Home and the Nun’s Kindergarten. For More Information Please Contact Fr. Ibrahim Shomali – +970 (0) 598 903 785.
