Carpenter of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 at 89 years of age. She was born in Titus County on September 27, 1925 to Bud and Johnie (Ward) Sellers. Iona held 3 masters degrees and was as beloved school teacher for 38 years, teaching at Chapel Hill, Harts Bluff and other area schools. She was a member of the North Jefferson Church of Christ. She leaves her children, Joe Carpenter of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Beth Troup of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Kayla Carpenter of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Megan Baugh of Grand Prairie, Texas and Matt Pentecost of Arlington, Texas; 6 great grandchildren; nephew, Randy Cooper and numerous other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, George Phillips and Thomas Porter Carpenter; sons, Wylie Carpenter, Phil Phillips and J.B. Phillips; sister, Josephine Cooper. A memorial service to honor Iona will be held at a later date.
