Ipod Shuffle HC by Bowtruckle Fawkes (Whispering – Tony O’Connor) Fawkes sat on his perch in Dumbledore’s office, silent as always, but aware of everything around him. His sharp hearing picked up noises of fighting and he listened intently for a call that would tell him to go and aid; it didn’t come though, not this night. With a sudden onset of sadness, a single feather fell from his chest. He looked at it and a tear slid down his beak as another feather fell. He knew that his master, his companion, had died. Slowly his feathers continued to fall, but he knew that he had one last task to fulfil; one that would honour his friend. He began to sing a tale that only a Phoenix knows, about love, loss, grief and friendship. He could feel each note reverberating through the night and through the hearts of every person who was at Hogwarts. It would resonate within each of their souls and ease the pain of the loss they had suffered this dreadful night. He sang to ease his own pain as he flew out the window and around the castle’s towers. He sang as he watched Albus Dumbledore’s body being removed from the place that he had fallen and then, knowing that he had done all he could, he flew to the lake and let out one last mournful note. Fawkes burst into flame, unseen by those in the castle, and his ashes floated down into the water so that he could not be reborn and his soul set off in search of his lost companion.
