Ipod Shuffle HC by Bowtruckle (I know that this is a love song but I thought that it really suited how Dumbledore would have been feeling) A Penny for your Thoughts (Wherever You Will Go – The Calling) Albus Dumbledore sat at his desk, his fingertips pushed together, staring blankly ahead. He was lost deep in his thoughts, his broodings. He knew that his end was coming, he had known for months now and he had accepted it, as everybody should. But one troubling thought plagued him. Harry. He cared too much for him; he knew that and had even told him. And he had lost almost everybody in his life that had ever cared for him, now he was going to be just one more person who abandoned him... without even getting to tell him why he had to leave. He wanted desperately to be able to continue this journey with Harry, to see it right through to the end so that they may die together, side by side, understanding this whole complex and horrible tale completely. But for now, the cryptic lessons and the clues must continue; just enough to keep him informed and able to continue, for he didn’t know exactly when he would die. Maybe if he survived tonight he would explain some things more clearly, but the big secret that he must too die, that he could not know until the final moments. That would be too much of a burden for anyone to bear. Even Severus, poor Severus, had not been able to bear his burden easily and he was to just tell Harry in the end. Harry... the boy he cared so much for, the boy he wanted to always protect, to always be there to look out for, to carry some of the burden for... “A penny for your thoughts, Professor?” Dumbledore started; he had not heard Harry walk into his office. “I can assure you, Harry, that my thoughts are worth much less than that now days.” He replied serenely as he brought himself back from his deep reverie with a somewhat sad smile, then he added silently: ‘Oh, Harry, my boy... if only you knew... if only I could stay with you...”
