One of the most significant political developments in Iran’s foreign policy was the continuation of intense talks between Iran and the US, the two countries which had no diplomatic relations for nearly 35 years. The development came following the intense talks in which Iran reached an interim agreement with six major world powers, officially titled the Joint Plan of Action, on the 24th of November 2013, in Geneva, Switzerland. The pact between Iran and the group of six countries known as the P5+1 comprising the US, Russia, China, France, the UK, and Germany, consists of a reduction of economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for a temporary freeze of portions of Irans nuclear program. The internal economy strongly influenced by external policies, Iran’s share of the Caspian Sea, the reduction in the sky-rocketing rate of inflation, the impeachment of Minister of Science, Research and Technology, and much more are only some of the key events that have drawn the attention of the media to Iran in 2014.
