Ireland President Micheal D Higgins, Spouse Arrive in Malawi. The President Of lreland Micheal D Higgins and his spouse Sabina Higgins have arrived in the country on a four days official visit. He was welcomed at Kamuzu International Airport by the Minister Of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, George Chaponda and other top government officials. The President of Ireland will be in the country from 10th to 13th November, 2014. According to a state house press statement available to Malawi Voice, President Peter Mutharika and Higgins will hold bilateral discussions, aimed strengthening the fraternal bonds of friendship and fruitful cooperation existing between their two governments. Whilst in the country, President Higgins will on 11th November, visit Saopa Mpeni village in Salima, where he will interact with the local community participating in Irish Aid-funded resilience programme. He will also meet the Irish Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) working in the country, and appreciate women leaders’ gender activism campaign exhibition at Ufulu Gardens in Lilongwe. On 12th November, the visiting President will address lecturers and students at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). On the same day, the Irish President will tour the ICRISAT-Malawi Seed Industry Development Project at Chitedze in Lilongwe, supported by the Government of Ireland. Ireland is one of Malawi’s key development partners that have stood by Malawi over the years. Malawi continues to benefit from Irish Government’s aid, particularly in the areas of agriculture and nutrition, governance, as well social sectors of education and health.
