Iridescent Vista By: Melanie Marshall In the morning Id be aroused by the symphony of birds singing passionately outside my window. It was refreshing to open the blinds to a beaming and cordial sun. The view was abundant and had a majestic tint to it. The smell carried through the wind was a compilation of all the beautiful flowers swaying in front of me. You see, when you allow grass to grow naturally, the weeds become a luscious playground for butterflies and hummingbirds who, for hours, will dance in harmony with one another, forming a beautiful masterpiece to watch. You see, there were many times my pray mantis friend would come climb up my window, pausing to stare back at me with wonder and curiosity. His big eyes would scan mine, only to map out how similar we are besides the obvious genetic differences. You see, there were honey bees living on the wall, working in such an intricate system incomparable to any human endeavor. A rare thing to witness these days, the honey bees are particularly delicate as they glide from flower to flower. There was such a sense of community based on coexistence, unlike anything I had seen in a long time. An invigorating movie was greeting my eyes each morning that most people who cut their grass dont get to witness. Everyday I would find a new wing of patterns, a new dance form, a new song sung. The terms creation and life mean something completely anew based on a simple conscious choice to not cut grass. Some would judge the choice and find it outside the norm to not tame the land, for they dont have any beautiful reason to question cutting their grass. But, creation and life holds such a deep meaning in my heart now due to vivid memories filled with such authentic and natural beauty! Its such a shame people do not know what experiences theyre sacrificing!
