Ironic Trigger Warning: Angry Activism Post. Im putting this here because I dont want to ruin any well-meaning threads with it. I think its telling that there are more articles online about how to be a better online activist (one who is politer, and never has to use the offensive word privilege) than there are about how to carefully, humbly and constructively listen to the anger of certain types of online activist. Privilege is layered and complex. Case in point: that person who attacked, harassed or heckled a disabled person in the street or online may well be someone who calls himself an ally (or once did) but has just had it up to here with the angry tone of online activists telling him to check his privilege. That attacker might just be a poor soul who is just tired of trying to be a friend to those angry activists that keep shouting at him. Yes, there are two sides to every story. But Im only interested in one of them: the one that keeps me, and others like me, safe and alive.
