Ironman Switzerland done and dusted. No. 24 in the bag. Crap swim, numerous panic attacks again even with a wetsuit swim. Bike conservative, treating it as a training day for IMMY. 5hrs48. Two laps and on the second lap the marshals send in the pixies to make the three climbs steeper and longer haha, ask Nicolas Sondaz if you dont believe me 😝. Only done 3 27k runs this year and one of them was last Sunday. Run started super painfully and continued likewise. It didnt get any more painful just slower. Problem is that the pain and discomfort chips away at your resolve. Had a few real dark moments. Told myself to get to 21k and then see what happen. Then match the 27k. Then my usual IM build up 32k. By the time I got there then it was just a case of suck it up and try to reach my stretch goal of 11:59:59. Managed 11hrs55, ran the entire marathon without walking (except half of each aid station) so I was stoked. Legs hurt a tad now though.😱 Bathroom report on its way but hotel wifi doesnt want to do it quickly. I saw Nicolas after the race. He was also stoked and so he should have been with a 10:25 for his first Ironman. Ive challenged him to go head to head with me at IMMY but he is conveniently away on a trip. Ive told him to cancel it. Haha Finally, a huge shout out to my sister and brother in law Angela Burkart and Markus. They drove down from Germany to support me again. They were pretty much everywhere I needed them to be and it was cold, windy and raining. They brought me soup which saved my life and got me to the end, not to mention beer for the finish. You guys are awesome and it was greatly appreciated. 💋
