Irrawaddy News India Raises Security on Burma Border India has decided to boost its defenses along its border with Burma by deploying the same security force it currently uses on its frontiers with Pakistan and Bangladesh. According to a report by Outlook India, 40,000 personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) will be assigned to guard the porous 1,640 km-long Burma-India border, which is notorious for the movement of insurgents and smuggling of arms and narcotics. The decision was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs and will be sent for final approval by the Cabinet Committee on Security, Indias highest decision-making body on security-related issues. The BSF will replace the Assam Rifles, another paramilitary force that operates well within Indian territory.
