Irvine admits to job fears West Brom boss Alan Irvine conceded his job could be on the line after his side were well beaten by champions Manchester City in the Boxing Day snow. Irvine’s men were booed off the pitch at half-time after going in 3-0 down to the current Premier League champions and are now just two points above the drop zone having won just one of their last eight games. Irvines predecessor Pepe Mel lasted just four months in the job and other incumbents such as Roberto Di Matteo and Steve Clarke have been quickly ushered out in the recent past. Irvine said: The chairman will make a decision as far as that is concerned. I cant control it. Can I be confident about it? Not necessarily, because I dont know what the thinking is. All I can do is work as hard as I do and keep on trying to get the right kind of performances and results. A Ben Foster mistake handed Fernando a late Christmas present with just four minutes gone before Yaya Toure and David Silva sealed the win for ruthless Man City. Individual defensive errors have become a common theme for West Brom after conceding two goals from corners at QPR last weekend and Irvine is becoming frustrated with the constant errors. “We started the game well but the first time Man City went up the pitch they got a goal, which was our mistake,” he said. “We continued to look as that we might score. We came close on a few occasions and Joe Hart had to make a couple of good saves. “We looked as though we were in the game but we made individual errors. When you make them in the Premier League they are costly, when you make them against Manchester City they are extremely costly. “We attacked well and gave Manchester City problems but we have to eradicate the individual errors. It’s very difficult to work on it on the training ground as it’s not a thing that players at this level do too often. We’ve had a few individual errors in the last two games and they’ve cost us dearly.”
