Is Breakfast the most important meal of the day? Its a great question. And one that deserves some talking about. Many of us like to load up the body and stomach with crazy amounts of food. The problem with this amount of food, so early in the morning, it is very hard for the body to digest. So lets say you eat late at night, go to bed soon after and sleep 7-8 hours. Then wake up and eat first thing in the morning. You have toast, oatmeal, berries, maybe some healthy cereal and top it off with a glass of juice/sugar. And now look at the word Breakfast and lets break it down. Literally Break and Fast. We are BREAKING a FAST so we need to be aware that the best thing for our bodies is not necessarily a bunch of food upon wake up. Instead try waiting an hour and having a smoothie made from all organic vegetables and fruit. Add in some plant protein, which comes from all natural plants found in nature :-) with water or almond milk (unsweetened) and make it to your liking and taste. One thing to watch out for if using Fruit, keep the portions small, do not overload the body with too much fruit which in turn will raise the blood sugar. The morning smoothie will give you a natural source of nutrients, energy and will be easily digested and absorbed into the body!! Break the Fast! Have a healthy night! -Mark Anderson CPT
