Is #Inter a #mediocre team? The heading is strong, the reason - TopicsExpress

Is #Inter a #mediocre team? The heading is strong, the reason is that over the last couple of weeks I have read scores of sports commentators, agents, journalists and pundits that have had their say on Inter FC...in most occasions I would have found more sense in a teenage fanatic from the Curva Nord than form many of these expert opinions. Let’s look at the facts of the current squad, as we did at the beginning of the season. Inter are not ready to win the league. Inter have been through a big sporting staff and player change. Inter have decreased the average age very considerably (from 30+ to 26.5). Inter are no longer buying ready made top players, this is not a period of Muller, Matthaus, Klinsmann, Ronaldo, Vieri, Baggio, Bergkamp, Seedorf, Veron, Figo, Ibra, Eto’o... The last treble winning side was made of a mix of good and great players assembled to make a formidable team. JC, Maicon, Materazzi, Milito; Motta, Sneijder, Muntari, Balotelli, Cambiasso, JZ4 and Pandev were made great by (and with) Inter and not the other way round. Although Inter is currently not a financial powerhouse that can command top player attraction, in the latest home game vs Verona Inter fielded 10 International players and 3 international substitutes. With the exception of Vidic, who has retired from International football, all players have been called up by their senior international squads over the past 12 months. To give credit to the manager Icardi, Dodò and Obi have made the call up under WM. That is 13 out of 14 players!!! I don’t believe any other Serie A team on Sunday fielded such a squad. Even the SerieA league leaders had “only” 9 out of 14 players called up by the senior squads over the past 12 months. Definitely Inter should NOT have 8 teams above it in the league, the asset as a whole is obviously underperforming! Is the Inter roster mediocre...NO it does not look like it. Is the Inter TEAM average...maybe. So what is going wrong? You need to be on the training ground and the dressing room to tell that. What surely is undermining the Inter spirit is the lack of belief that Inter CAN DO IT. The spirit and venom just don’t appear to be there. If a player makes a mistake often there is no back up and the mistake is paid for. Movement off the ball when in possession does not appear to happen. When the opposition teams score something seems to break and this guarantees the oppositions points. Inter making a time wasting substitution on 93 minutes @home to Verona or on the last play of the game away to St.Etienne the manager telling players to slow down and run down the clock (both were draws) makes the belief that Inter CAN DO IT disappear and gives OUT to the players and the fans the message that Inter is an average team. Remember Inter vs Samp 3 2...that was a crazy Inter with roller coaster results. But it was a crazy Inter that had it inside to rise beyond any team all it needed was to become continuous and reach the mental conviction that they were winners. From that team spirit came the 5 league wins and treble winners. I cannot see that team spirit anymore, the results say it and it appears San Siro seems to say it...avg attendance dropped by almost 20,000 people year on year (from 46K to 28k). Directors of Sports, GM or CEO need to be more present in the press to leave the sporting staff work more peacefully, WM is getting hammered by his own statements in the press, who find him an easy target. The Headcoach needs to build that spirit or else this will NOT be a team to be proud of! youtu.be/YT4VvI1owEI
