I saw Roger Hunt, Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes. “Kenny was a great player but let’s not forget that he had the luxury of playing with 10 quality players around him. “Steven has never had that. He’s had to play alongside a lot of average players over the years – some who wouldn’t have got into Liverpool Reserves during Kenny’s career. “Just think of all those games when Steven carried us through almost single-handedly. All those Cup finals when he provided the inspiration. “What he’s done for Liverpool has been remarkable. He has given us everything. “There have been so many great nights. His header in Istanbul, the screamer against Olympiacos, his 35-yarder in the FA Cup final when we were dead and buried and that hat-trick against Everton. “My favourite moment would have to be the sight of him lifting the European Cup in Istanbul. His performance that night was mega.”
