Is a a pre or post shake necessary? yes and no it depends.. id say for the majority of trainees NO. but there are certain circumstances where it would be applicable. 1. Training fasted if you train first thing in the morning and you do not eat before you train and the first solid meal your going to eat would be 2-3hours after training, could be of benefit but you wont die if you consume what you need for the day. 2. Training after work i.e; 4-6pm and the last meal you ate was 12-1pm, a carb/protein shake may help this would be of more benefit to a tradie some one working on the tools all day as opposed to a desk jockey as your glycogen stores would be significantly different by time training comes around.. will the anabolic fairy relinquish your gains probably not as long as you meet your caloric requirement for the day. 3. Multi event competition or log duration events 3+ hours. yes definitely, most people have nerves and dont want to eat but consuming some carbs and protein in the form of liquid you may preform better. 4. An advanced trainee, who is multi day training or significantly long workouts i.e. squatting for 2+hours, strongman event training etc. can definitely help but you will not die as long as you consume enough food that day some time this can be hard when your shitting blood from so much squatting so sometimes a shake can be a good option. 5. Exogenous insulin usage. YES definitely if you dont consume enough carbs during the time the insulin is active you will go in to a coma and/or die. this is when it matters and this is what the pros use and thats why they do it. So if your a natural athlete, or just using some standard PEDs then it really doesnt matter along as you hit the calorie/macro nutrient requirement for the day. this is where most people get the oh but it worked for me.. it worked for you cause you were under consuming what you needed for the day.. if you were getting what you need you would of gotten fat from a calorie surplus.. Now will it hurt to throw some whey and or carbs in post workout absolutely not! but dont be fooled that you will get cancer from the anabolic fairy by not jumping out the anabolic window... jissn/content/10/1/5
