Is a real different place outdoors than what it should be for - TopicsExpress

Is a real different place outdoors than what it should be for august. Seen so many types of mushrooms growing of all colors & size on the floor of the woods. I dont know these types enough to pick for eating, but if one did it would sure to be a feast. Noticed the wasps have pretty much quit making their nest & starting to solo like when the fall is near. A few still guard but dont seem to be angry as should be this time of year. New grass grows lush alot of fall plants are going to town in this wet humid weather. A good month early on so many things growing wild. Yet many plants of late spring have just now started to thrive. Is very hard to read the signs of the season this year. Birds are so thick you would think it a flock but its many breeds busy goobling down all the bugs that too are out of sync with the calendar. Birds as welll hanging about out of whack with should be. Seen a very large flock of purple martins devouring bugs hatching from the waters of our creek. First to ever be on my place that I know of. The young song birds hatced this spring shouldenly have started to put on the brilliant colors. I am blessed with a rainbow of wings as I carve. But the goldfinch, black birds, hummers & a few others are absent here for first time in my memory. Weeds havent came up in time so may be the cause, dont know? Their food sources just not right. As a kid dozens of coveys of quail would call on this place, havent seen a bird in 10 years. & the whipporwills barely called this spring. So in a lot of ways alien to this land Ive lived all my life this year. Change hapens, but living close to the land it does put one at unease to not see the familar. One reads the signs of seasons and gets lost this year. Do wish there was a few more of the oldtimers left as when I was a kid to hear them talk of these things. They always had answers & could tell you why as well what to do. I will just enjoy all the pretty birds, collect what food comes & hope for a more normal year next time around.
