Is anyone saying yet...whats all the fuss? Its only a wee hill? Well read this...... I will be training hard for the foreseeable to get into physical shape. I have enrolled in the gym and started going out walking. This is alongside organising various fund raising events, blogging, working full time and running a busy household. I have purchased my travel insurance and most of my kit but still have a lot to organise. I will be very busy with various meetings and events I have to attend, most of them in Glasgow. I also have to have injections for the various diseases that are out there and a full medical check. After just over a years training, sweat blood and tears I will fly to Tanzania, leaving my kids and family behind along with all the comforts of home, where I will stay overnight on my own. Then the trek begins!! Its a six day trek which will test me physically, mentally and emotionally. By day four, after hours of walking on rough and barren terrain I will have climbed over 4700 metres!!! This will have pushed my body to the limit! Bear in mind this is in soaring heat with no protection from the sun, with minimal food as and when we can eat, no shower or cleaning facilities and little sleep as I will be sleeping in a sleeping bag in a tent as and when we can stop. This is when I will be tired, grumpy and missing home the most and to top it all off altitude sickness with start to effect me. Making me feel sick, dizzy and disorientated. On day 5 I reach the summit, a whole 5895 metres above sea level!! And finally I can have a minute to take in the views!! I can also rest my blistered feet, tired legs and worn out body, but only briefly because what goes up must come down. We will descend down over the next 2 days until we are on the ground again!! And I have finally done it!! I can then have a wash, meal and a kip!! I fly home 10 days after arriving hopefully with a sense of achievement, pride and contentment. And all of this to raise money for the fantastic cause MND Scotland. After reading this back its all a bit scary! But I know I have great friends, family and work colleagues behind me!! The support already has been overwhelming and has moved me to tears on more than one occasion. If you havent already but feel you would like to......please give a little. You can sit on your couch, watch the telly, have a brew and cuddle your kids while I am doing the mammoth task detailed above!! But you can do these little luxuries knowing you helped get me there, and knowing you have made a difference!!
